The Governor of Kaluga, Vladislav Shapsha, has started writing posts in Chinese. On March 24, he published a post in Chinese expressing his belief that China would become even closer to Russia, following the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Putin.
The Governor of Kaluga, Vladislav Shapsha, shared a post about two Kaluga students, Hou Hou Houyang and Ji Dongsheng, written in Chinese characters. In the post, Shapsha highlighted that the students loved Russian borscht, and the region has been collaborating with China in a wide range of industries. For instance, Chinese companies have invested in the region, and the cities of Obninsk and Kaluga have partner towns in China.
Shapsha expressed his belief that China would become even closer to Russia following the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Putin.
The meeting between President Xi Jinping and Putin was held in the Kremlin on March 21 and was characterized by Putin as "warm and friendly." According to Xi Jinping, both countries have agreed to enhance their trade in energy, natural resources, and electrical equipment. Although many had expected the leaders to make specific statements on the war in Ukraine, none was officially announced. Nevertheless, Putin stated that he had carefully reviewed China's plan for a "peaceful settlement" in Ukraine.
