The mayor of Kurgan, Elena Sitnikova, was detained following the initiation of a criminal case on negligence resulting in the death of two or more people, as reported by TASS on December 26.
As per 'Oblast 45' media outlet, the arrest of Mayor Elena Sitnikova is linked to the investigation of spring fires in the Smolino microdistrict of Kurgan Oblast, during which 11 people lost their lives.
Sitnikova, the head of Kurgan, is suspected of negligence leading to the deaths of two or more individuals. As a precautionary measure, the court has prohibited her from communicating with witnesses, other defendants, and their lawyers.
In 2022, a resident of Kurgan, Marina Kamshilova, created a voodoo doll resembling Mayor Elena Sitnikova. She claimed that 'the year 2022 became unprecedented in deception and disregard for the rights and issues of the city's residents.'
