In the Nizhny Novgorod region, more than 1.5 thousand road builders went on strike demanding their salaries be paid. They are engaged in the construction of a highway between Moscow and Kazan. This was reported on February 10 by the State Labour Inspection Office in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
The salary was 15 days due when the CRCCRus company workers decided to leave their jobs. The company employees were working on a rotational schedule on road construction in the Nizhniy Novgorod Region.
The company has a contract to build a section of the M-12 highway worth about 96 million rubles ($1,300 000). The road will cross the territories of the Moscow, Vladimir, and Nizhny Novgorod regions, Chuvashia and Tatarstan. It is to be completed by 2025.
After the outbreak of the fighting in Ukraine, many Russian companies had to lay off employees. In June 2022, the Swedish company IKEA made a decision to sell its four factories in Russia. The management offered employees a severance pay of 7-8 monthly salaries. According to the trade union, the employees were offered to terminate their contracts by mutual agreement, and in this case, they could be paid from 3 to 5 monthly salaries. More than 500 employees of the Kirov and Leningrad IKEA factories signed a petition demanding the administrations respect their labor rights.
In December 2022, more than 1,500 workers went on strike because of long salary delays at the Kirinsk gas condensate plant in Sakhalin. About 200 of them eventually quit their jobs. For those who stayed on strike, the management offered to go find a new job.
