Meeting "Letters to political prisoners", where everyone will write letters to people who have undergone a criminal trial for their beliefs and views, is going to be held in Ivanovo on March 21. Former regional coordinator of the Goloc (‘Voice’) Movement Irina Maltseva reported this on Facebook.

The organizers will explain at the meeting how to write a letter to a political prisoner: what to tell and what not to tell, how to get round the  Federal Penitentiary Service's censorship and what can be put in an envelope. In addition, those who have already sent letters to political prisoners will share their experience. Those who will not make it can write their letter using the online instructions.

According to the organizers of the action, it is important not to leave behind the people who have been politically persecuted. Such letters allow them to get away from the prison reality and not feel abandoned.

The meeting is going to take place in the office of the Yabloko Party’s regional branch (4 Posadsky Pereulok, office 106) on March 21, 3PM.

A similar workshop was held in Petrozavodsk in February 2020. Participants of the blogging school in the Agriculture_club Art Space wrote letters to political prisoners. The 7x7 Online Newspaper has published some excerpts.

In Kirov, activist Fyodor Kalinin made an installation of barbed wire and 24 roses next to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility No. 1 on February 14. He attached ribbons with the names of political prisoners, whom he suggested sending a letter of support to, to the flowers.
