Nefteyugansk district court of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug called the decision of the foster care, which had refused to grant an HIV-positive woman custody of her nephew, illegal. On June 13, it was reported by Mediazona with the reference to Vladimir Vasin, the lawyer of human rights group "Agora".
According to the lawyer, his client filed a lawsuit, as she had been deprived from taking care of the child. In fact, she has been educating him from his birth, and her material and psychological condition allows her to be a custodian. However, the woman was refused because of the positive HIV-status. After the decision, the foster care will have to reconsider the request.
In May 2018, the foster care took a grandson of Vorkuta resident Irina Bondarenko away. The reason for the early termination of temporary custody was her conviction under a serious article 34 years ago.
