One day after the end of the rescue operation, the governor of Amur Oblast still has not declared mourning for the deceased miners. The landslide, which resulted in 13 deaths, is one of the biggest tragedies that the region has seen throughout the past few years.

The rescue mission at the Pioneer gold mine ended on April 1. On that day, Amur Oblast Governor Vasily Osipov thanked the rescuers and the head of Kuzbass, Sergey Tsivilev, for their help. Osipov also pledged to provide the families of the deceased miners with financial support.

On April 2, Osipov visited a dairy plant and wrote about simulators being installed in computer classes for future UAV operators. However, amidst these activities, the governor did not take time to declare mourning for the victims of the landslide.

According to the 14News Telegram channel, Osipov is not intending to declare mourning. Local media outlet Amur.life reported on the future installation of a memorial for the deceased miners at the Pioneer gold mine. However, there is no such information on the region’s government’s official website.

The rescue mission at the Pioneer gold mine lasted for two weeks and was curtailed due to the risk of a new landslide. The place, where the miners could have hidden, was filled with water and rocks. During the rescue operation, the miner’s relatives wrote that 'nobody did anything' to save the workers and asked Vladimir Putin to take the matter under his personal control.
