The Jewish Autonomous Oblast has become the leading region in the number of 'heroes of the special military operation' per capita, as per Yuri Trutnev, the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District.
Yuri Trutnev has not disclosed the exact number of participants in the war in Ukraine residing in the Jewish Autonomous Oblast who were awarded the title of the Hero of Russia. He stated that there are also numerous Heroes of Russia in Zabaykalsky Krai and Krasnodar Krai.
Additionally, Trutnev has urged the support of 'SMO heroes.'
In late February 2023, the Jewish Autonomous Oblast leader, Rostislav Goldstein, turned out to be the only governor not sanctioned by the USA because of the war in Ukraine. He then announced his intention to 'file a lawsuit with the European Court in Strasbourg,' because the absence of sanctions causes him 'moral suffering.'
