Residents of the Leninsky district were warned about the "emergency situation" and asked "not to panic". According to local media, a hospital and a pumping station in Derbent were left without power following an accident at a substation.
The head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, said the old power system had failed because of the hot weather. This led to cyclical blackouts and accidents. According to Melikov, it will take several years to solve the problem. He has asked the Russian government for funding for this purpose. He has not yet received a response.
"I want to hear me those who violate the law by blocking streets. Such ‘forms of dialog’ will only add to our problems, giving ground to our adversaries to use people's difficulties for their own dishonest purposes.
