The Bryansk authorities have decided to build 17 additional checkpoints in the border areas. This was announced by regional governor Alexander Bogomaz on March 19.

According to Alexander Bogomaz, new checkpoints will allow local residents "to feel more secure.” Materials and equipment for the construction were purchased by the All-Russian People's Front with donations from private companies and local residents. The builders, according to Bogomaz, will work for free.

The region has already built several checkpoints. Police officers and Rosgvardia will be deployed to secure control over them.

On March 2, a group of armed troopers entered the Bryansk region in the Klimovsk district that borders Ukraine. According to the authorities, the intruders opened fire at a car. The driver was killed. A ten-year-old passenger, Fyodor, was wounded. Now, he is being glorified as a hero by Russian propaganda. The Russian Volunteer Corps claimed responsibility for the raid. The Investigative Committee opened criminal proceedings for the act of terrorism, attempt on the life of law enforcement officers, and destruction of property.

The regional authorities called what happened an act of sabotage, and Vladimir Putin called it an act of terrorism. In response to the action, Russia launched missile strikes against Ukraine's infrastructure on March 9. The Russian Defense Ministry called them "massive retaliatory strikes.”
