Unknown hackers got access to the site of the "popular election" and set the election results for the "people's governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast" to zero a day after its launch. The representatives of the STOP-SHIES coalition announced this in their community on February 3.
As the representatives of the coalition write, they do not know who is behind the attack on the site, but they understand the motives of the hackers. The initiators of the vote ask the residents of the region who have already voted to participate in the voting again and vote for their candidates:
— We have taken measures to prevent this situation's recurrence and extended the voting period until February 13, 2020.
On February 1, advance voting to select the “people's governor” of Arkhangelsk Oblast began on golos29.ru. A total of 25 people — leaders of the protest movement against the landfill at Shies, members of opposition parties, environmentalists and businessmen — have declared themselves as candidates. Voters can choose three candidates so far - the STOP-SHIES coalition will choose one "people's governor" at the coalition’s congress on February 15 in accordance with the results of the advance vote. This person will have to defend the real interests of the region at the federal level.
