Komi eco-activists held a series of one-person pickets in support of the 2nd Arkhangelsk United Air Group, pilots of which refused to transport fuel to station Shies. The action was held in Syktyvkar on September 15 at the Theatre square, it was visited by the correspondent of "7x7".
Most of the participants of the pickets said that they had learned about the dismissal of the pilots from the media. And Mikhail Gabov has friends among the air group members. According to them, 38 people wrote the letters of resignations.
— In fact, they acted like men. They are the first people who do not go to Shies, but show their citizenship and have begun to fight for the well-being of their country. Many thanks to them for this act, — activist Mikhail Gabov told.
Activists stood with posters for almost two hours. Every 15 minutes the picketers replaced each other. On their posters it was written: "Real pilots do not fly to dumps", "It's not bad to lose your job, it's worse to lose yourself", "The pilots said no! Can you do that?". There were no policemen on the picket.
Information that the Arkhangelsk pilots wrote the application for dismissal, when they were forced to carry fuel for the landfill under construction at Shies, was published by "Novaya Gazeta" on September 5. According to the newspaper, 50 members of the group gave an ultimatum: either the enterprise refuses to serve landfill construction at Shies, or the pilots leave. No answer of the management of the 2nd Arkhangelsk United Air Group and no confirmation of this information could be received operatively.
One-person pickets in support of the pilots were held in Arkhangelsk, Ukhta, Kotlas, Koryazhma, Yarensk.
It became known about the construction of the landfill for solid municipal waste from Moscow and Moscow Oblast at station Shies near the village of Urdoma on the border of Arkhangelsk Oblast and the Komi Republic in the summer of 2018. Residents of the two regions have united and are holding protests against the import of garbage to Shies. In December 2018, opponents of the landfill construction have organized a round-the-clock watch and observe the actions of the builders.
LLC Technopark officially announced the termination of work on the construction site from June 15 and the beginning of examinations and inspections. All the equipment was taken from Shies. Eco-activists have not decamped and continue to monitor the territory. In the cities, indefinite protests continue at the central squares. Activists in other regions of Russia joined the protest.
