The pontoons on the coast of the White Sea, affected by the explosion under Severodvinsk during the test of a missile with a nuclear engine on August 8, will be evacuated and neutralized. This is reported by Interfax with reference to the Governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast Igor Orlov.

— Yes. This is the property of people, companies that are engaged in this. They have to be removed, — Orlov commented.

On September 2, journalists of Belomorkanal published results of the radiation background measurements near the pontoons, thrown out on the coast, which were carried out by ecologist Alexey Klimov. Background reached 750 up to microroentgen per hour, which exceeds the norm several times. President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Alexander Sergeev said on September 13 that the radiation level in Severodvinsk was not dangerous and was returning to normal.

Near the village of Nyonoksa in Arkhangelsk oblast, an explosion occurred during the test of a new military engine on August 8. Automatic radiation monitoring systems in nearby Severodvinsk recorded a 16-fold increase in radiation, but the Ministry of Defense, the MES of Russia, and Roshydromet refused to comment on the radiation situation in the city that day. The explosion killed seven people: five employees of Rosatom and two military specialists. Victims of the explosion were taken to ordinary hospitals in Arkhangelsk, while, according to doctors on condition of anonymity, they had not been warned about the radiation danger. According to the German newspaper Der Spiegel, two victims died directly from acute radiation sickness.

The authorities of Arkhangelsk Oblast recognized the danger of the unknown "objects", washed up on the shore of the White Sea near the village of Nyonoksa.
