The municipality of the District of Columbia, which includes the US capital Washington, voted to name the site near the Russian embassy after Boris Nemtsov. The decision will come into force on the anniversary of his murder.
The municipal deputies of Washington voted to allow the renaming of the site in front of the embassy in an accelerated order. They unanimously adopted a bill to rename the quarter on Wisconsin Avenue between Davis Street and Edmunds Street as Boris Nemtsov Square. The document states that "the symbolic renaming of the quarter in honor of Boris Nemtsov will create a memorial that can not be destroyed". The deputies called their decision "a message of solidarity to all those who are fighting for democratic principles in the world".
Deputy of the Yaroslavl Regional Duma Boris Nemtsov was killed in Moscow on February 27, 2015 on the Bolshoy Zamoskvoretsky Bridge. At the scene of the murder, activists still preserve the people's memorial of flowers and portraits of politic, despite the opposition of city public services.
In Yaroslavl, Nemtsov's supporters installed a marble information tablet in his honor on the house where he lived, but it was stolen.
