Endocrinologist, who prescribed treatment to Dmitriev's daughter [the girl stayed with her grandmother instead of treatment because of the process]. The parties are expected to debate in the middle of September.

The Dmitriev case is still being heard behind closed doors. Yuri  felt unwell and had a fever during proceedings.

Journalists from Sweden arrived to court. Before the meeting began, the tipstaff prohibited photographing the composition of court – the judge, the secretary and the state prosecutor. Journalists, friends and relatives of Dmitriev learnt about the meeting results from his lawyer.

'The girl needed treatment,’ said the lawyer Viktor Anufriev. 'In November the endocrinologist directed the daughter of Yury Alekseyevich to a hospital. She had a number of diagnoses and needed special attention from Yuri, and, according to the defense, photography was justified.'

The lawyer asked to change pre-trial restrictions to Yuri Dmitriev. The judge took a break of 20 minutes to consider the decision. After 40 minutes Marina Nosova returned, and after the meeting Yuri Dmitriev was taken to the pretrial detention center. According to the court, he could escape from justice and influence witnesses.

The lawyer asked the court to examine four experts from the Center for Sociocultural Expertise again – they made the first examination that became the basis for the accusation. Marina Nosova satisfied the petition, but the witnesses will be examined by video link. The defense wants the experts to be taken to the court on September 7, as well as the district police officer who summoned Yuri Dmitriev on November 29 and held him for four hours without grounds.

Yuri Dmitriev asked the court to name the author of the statement about anonymous photographs [according to the lawyer, the case was brought on the fact of an anonymous application with the attachment of photocopies of two photographs]. The court refused his request.

The next meeting is scheduled for September 7. On September 15, the court will issue a verdict.

A well-known researcher of Stalinist repressions, the head of the Karelian branch of the 'Memorial' society, Yuri Dmitriev, was detained in his apartment on December 13, 2016 on suspicion of making pornographic pictures of his adopted daughter. The photos, according to the historian’s defense team, were a diary of the girl's health, who was malnourished when she came to him from the children’s home.

On June 1, Petrozavodsk city court began hearing the case in camera. In addition to producing pornographic materials depicting minors, he was charged with Article 135 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Non-violent sexual abuse’) and 222 ('Illegal keeping of firearms').

On June 22, Professor Lev Shcheglov, D.Sc. (Medicine), president of the National Institute of Sexology, spoke in court. According to him, there were no pornographic pictures in Dmitriev's case.
