On May 26, members of Jehovah's Witnesses [the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia] wrote on their website that their house for worship in the village of Zheshart of the Komi Republic was set on fire by unknown people.

'The porch and half of the roof burnt down. The building suffered significant damage. Remains of the Molotov cocktail were found. There are about 50 followers of the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses in the village. They are shocked by what happened. This action continued the wave of acts of vandalism that followed the Supreme Court's decision against Jehovah's Witnesses,' the website said.

On April 20, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized the main organization of the Witnesses in Russia as extremist and banned its activities on the territory of the country. On May 22, believers of the denomination appealed against this decision.

On May 25, Danish Jehovah's Witness Dennis Christensen was detained in Oryol. In many regions, the Witnesses complained of acts of vandalism.
