Yelena Penzina, a deputy from Krasnoyarsk, labeled 30% of Russians as 'traitors' and called for the reinstatement of SMERSH on her Telegram channel on June 7.

Krasnoyarsk Deputy Yelena Penzina used her Telegram channel to comment on Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s remark made during The Breakfast Show. The politician said that the share of pro-European Russian citizens might reach 30%.

"If there is one thing that this ridiculous man, who was justifiably recognized as a foreign agent, is right about, it is that Russia still has about 30% traitors. And here comes the long-overdue question of reviving SMERSH," wrote Penzina. The deputy expressed hope that the restoration of the organization would begin soon.

SMERSH is an abbreviation for the Russian phrase 'Death to Spies.' This was the name of the counterintelligence organization that operated in the USSR during World War II.

Penzina has become at least the third deputy to openly call for violence against those who do not support the current political regime. In October, during a 'Russia-1' broadcast, Deputy Andrey Gurulev called for 'isolating and destroying' those who are against the president and the war. Two days ago, Armen Mnatsakanian, the head of the United Russia faction in the Pskov parliament, suggested 'killing those who do not want to see or love us.'
