An 8-year-old girl from the Askaysky District in Rostov Oblast was murdered by Ruslan Shingirey, a former participant in the war in Ukraine. This information was reported on May 24 by the 161.RU media outlet, citing acquaintances of the man.

According to Ruslan Shingirey's fellow villagers, he served as a contracted soldier and participated in the 'special military operation' in Ukraine in 2022. However, he later returned home and began working as a tow truck driver. It remains unclear how Shingirey managed to terminate his contract; his neighbors claim that he deserted from the army.

Local residents, using surveillance cameras, identified the tow truck driver responsible for the crime and reached his residence before the police. With the help of the GLONASS system installed in the truck, they also located the victim’s body hidden in the bushes.

The second grader disappeared from the village of Olginskaya on the evening of May 17. A few hours later, her body was found in the woods. The next day, the Investigative Committee announced the arrest of the suspect, and the court placed him in a pre-trial detention center.
