The court has ordered the murderer of Kemerovo resident Vera Pekhteleva to pay a compensation of 4 million rubles. The man was previously pardoned for his participation in the war in Ukraine. The information on the compensation order was shared by the ‘Travmpunkt’ human rights project.

Bailiffs have been instructed to resume proceedings against Vladislav Kanyus. He is obligated to pay 4 million rubles in compensation to the family of Vera Pekhteleva, whom he murdered.

In July 2022, Kanyus was sentenced to 17 years in prison. One year later, he joined military forces in Ukraine, and bailiffs exempted him from paying compensation to his victim’s family. Subsequently, Kanyus returned home.

In the autumn, Vladimir Putin pardoned the murderer.

Vladislav Kanyus had been in a relationship with 23-year-old Vera Pekhteleva. After their breakup in early 2020, Kanyus locked Pekhteleva in an apartment in Kemerovo. He beat the girl for several hours, then raped and strangled her with an iron electrical cord. Vera’s body sustained 111 injuries.

Neighbors tried calling the police; however, the patrol never arrived. In the summer of 2023, two policemen were handed suspended sentences for negligence.
