Residents complained on social media that 'hanging a banner featuring an American girl with a dubious reputation in 2024, the Year of the Family in Russia, is clearly a failure' and demanded officials to explain themselves.
The next day, the wooden board with the face of the 'Snow Maiden' was removed. District authorities claimed that the image was found online by the employee responsible for the banner production. His search request was 'a girl wearing a Gzhel-style dress'; the image was aimed to symbolize the upcoming Winter Rural Spartakiad 2024.
Following the media publicity, Agapovka graffiti was updated. Residents claim that Sasha Grey’s image was replaced with a portrait of a local girl; however, the media noted a striking resemblance of the new 'Snow Maiden' to the Ukrainian model Valeria Gaidukevich.
