The Pskov Region governor Mikhail Vedernikov suggested rewarding doctors who successfully persuade women not to undergo abortion. The official shared this announcement on his Telegram channel on December 8th.

Mikhail Vedernikov presented proposals related to abortion restrictions to the regional assembly of deputies. The governor urged the adoption of a regional law prohibiting the “inclination” toward artificial pregnancy termination and the implementation of a reward system for healthcare professionals who effectively convince women to reconsider having an abortion.

Vedernikov suggested providing financially challenged pregnant and nursing women with 1,000 and 1,500 rubles per month, respectively. The governor referred to these measures as support initiatives that would aid the emergence of “new happy families.”

The draft law on banning abortions in all private clinics in Russia will be introduced to the State Duma in the spring of 2024. At least 13 regions have already taken independent measures to combat abortions.
