The Investigative Committee of Russia entered a new case against Vyacheslav Gaizer, the former head of the Komi Republic, on excess of power. This was reported by RIA Novosti on July 28.

Gaizer’s lawyer Darya Evmenina confirmed the information to the Meduza Online Newspaper. According to her, the case was initiated back in 2016, but the investigative actions have begun only now. She added that Vyacheslav Gaizer had not pleaded guilty.


Vyacheslav Gaizer headed the Komi Republic from 2010 to 2015. In September 2015, he and several high officials from the leadership of Komi were detained on suspicion of building a criminal organization, corruption, and fraud. In June 2019, Gaizer was sentenced to 11 years in prison for fraud, bribery, and money laundering.
